Hi! I am Anisha Banerjee, an 18-year-old student from the sunny island of Singapore. I am currently in 11th grade and I love to read, write and sing. I love to read articles of current affairs, both economical and environmental. I really do hope that my fellow Assembly readers enjoy the list of articles I have curated!

“How AlRawabi School for Girls Sheds Light On Unspoken Social Matters”

By Leen Hajjar, August 26, 2021, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia

I first came across “AlRawabi School for Girls” as I was mindlessly scrolling through Netflix one day. At first, I thought it would be like any ordinary high school drama where it's a constant battle between the mean girl and the nerdy girl. However, what really attracted me was the main character Mariam’s devilish plot to bring down the bully Layan and her clique once and for all. The show was an emotional rollercoaster for me where, while I first started the show cursing at Layan, I ended up crying for her (spoiler alert!) as she becomes a victim of honour killing. This show is really an eye opener on the social injustice of honour killings, something that is not frequently talked about in the media.

“2021 Athlete of the Year: Simone Biles”

By Alice Park and Sean Gregory, Photographs by Djeneba Aduayom, December 9, 2021, TIME

After gold medalist Simone Biles jumped off the vault for her routine, she fell into the trap of what she calls “the twisties” during the first round of the team gymnastics final in the 2020 Olympics (which occurred in 2021). As a fan of Simone Biles right from 2016, I was so excited to see her perform brilliantly this time. However, after her situation with “the twisties” I was quite put down, and with a heavy heart I listened to her decision of not going for the rest of the competition. It was only then I realised how much mental health matters and how it should be prioritised by not just oneself, but also everyone else. This article will not only give a glimpse into what Biles’s life is, but also will be quite motivational and inspiring for young athletes too!

“10 Brilliant Female Artists of the Renaissance”

By Elena Martinique, January 9, 2018, Widewalls Magazine

When we think about the big names of the art world, the most used names are Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, Vincent van Goh and so on. Any female artists? Any women who were famous during the Renaissance? This article answers all of your questions regarding Renaissance-era artists who overcame the social and cultural limitations of their time and changed beliefs about women in the 16th Century. Fun fact: To this day, out of all the 35,000 artworks hung up in the Musée du Louvre in Paris only 13 of them are made by women.

“22 times women made history in 2021”

By Talia Lakritz, December 30, 2021, Insider

It is always important to celebrate the achievements made by women, and I think this article serves as a good way to get motivated and inspired from the wonderful women who’ve made the charts in 2021.
