“My favorite genre for books is either realistic fiction or biographies. My favorite book is ‘And the Mountains Echoed’ by Khaled Hosseini. I used to read fantasy when I was younger but ever since sixth grade, I began to prefer realistic fiction. The real reason for this is because I feel like when I read fantasy I am living through a fake world. I feel like there is so much happening in our world. Why read fantasy when you can read about something that is real or based in the real world?”

“Murder mystery because it keeps me guessing until the very end. Every character seems suspicious, which leaves me predicting who the actual killer might be. You simply cannot get bored because just when you think you’ve guessed who the culprit is, there is an unforeseen plot twist.”

“Not so much a genre, but I love books that have LGBT characters. It’s very validating.”

"My favorite genre of books is self-help because reading titles like ‘The Secret’ makes me believe in the law of attraction and how it will help me achieve happiness, health and wealth. By believing in this law, I work on myself to continue working on my goals. Also, they help me grow, make good decisions in every aspect of my life and trust in God’s plans.”

— Andrea, 17, Guatemala

“I like books with real stories, books that help me evolve. I like detective novels and adventures. I generally read any books. I read because I'm passionate about it.”
